Richard Powell Memorial Award for Services to Umpiring

Nominated by Malcolm Kingshott:

I would like to propose John Burr for the Richard Powell Memorial Award. John has, for many years, been involved with umpiring from all aspects

John Burr

I think his services to umpiring have been, and still are, outstanding. He would be a very worthy winner of this award.

There can be no better person to receive this award than John Burr. He is always around when you need him and always with a smile and a jest. In any weather he can be found offering advice and assistance to anyone and it would be a fitting tribute to his service to the Umpires’ Association that he receives the first award.

I remember the good old days when John and I passed our umpiring “exams” and then served on the umpiring committee. What fun! John went on to become chairman of the committee for a number of years. John has since run P.U.A., always been on the end of the phone to answer any umpiring queries, and is currently out and about assessing our umpires. He still finds time to umpire when called upon.
