John Sutton, West President, welcomed everyone to Taunton and introduced Philip Kimberley, Sally Munday, David Faulkner and Cath Arter who put together a very thought provoking, debate opening presentation which led to an enthusiastic question and answer session.
As one of only a few Olympic team sports, London 2012 provides a unique opportunity for the whole of hockey in this country. The Games will help enhance hockey’s profile and attract new players to the sport. Hockey in England must be ready to make the most of this opportunity. The focus of the Road Show was to present England Hockey’s vision for a single system for hockey in England and the audience listened intently as Sally and David combined to deliver the proposals to be rolled out over an 8-10 year period. These included developing a clear and consistent player pathway, structuring & extending the season and changes to competitions.
Sally Munday Development Director for England Hockey commented “Taunton was the first of seven road shows we are conducting across the country. We were delighted that so many people came to hear our proposals for the future and contribute their thoughts. Our hockey family in the West were extremely hospitable as always, and provided us with some great input into issues we need to consider as we progress over the next few months and years”.
All attendees were provided with ‘A Single System For Hockey’ booklet and copies of the slide presentation.
These are now available to view/download from the ‘A Single System’ page of the England Hockey website. Please do have a look at the proposals and take the opportunity to feedback, before the end of May, using the dedicated email address - email@example.com. The intention is to add additional articles to help inform debate on some of the hot topics.
